Handstands are an important skill in gymnastics and extremely hard to master. They require strong arms, shoulders and core to hold your body up and balance to keep your body in a tight position. There are many exercises you can practice at home to build strength for a handstand. This can include front support holds on the floor, front support with your feet or hands up on a surface e.g. soft box, walls. Once front support is easy, you can progress to tuck and pike handstands on a raised surface. Handstands are used on all Women's and Men's apparatus and are arguably the most essential shape in gymnastics.
