Recreational Groups

Jumping Jelly Beans

18 months to 3 years

This is a play gym program designed for the pre-schooler from 18 months to 3 years. This program incorporates mums, dads and carers and aims to challenge your child physically, musically, intellectually and socially. A variety of small and large apparatus, together with supplementary equipment, imaginatively converts the gym into a magical playground.

An array of climbing, jumping, hanging, swinging, springing, balancing, rolling, throwing, catching and sliding activities are presented to your child to explore in a safe, caring and stimulating environment. Each session starts with a period of 'free play' on the apparatus with mum or dad followed by group activities and a gymnastics circuit.

What to wear: comfortable clothing, (no skirts or jeans) bare feet.

Parents please note: We do not allow mobile phones in the gym. They are a distraction. Please remember to turn them off. Also, please wear soft-soled shoes or bare feet only. Hard soled and heeled shoes ruin our very expensive matting. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Kindy Bears

3 to 4 years

The Kindy Bears program caters for boys and girls from 3 to 4 years in a challenging, non-threatening environment. Parent or guardian participation is required. These classes are a stepping-stone from the Jumping Jellybeans program to the Junior Gym program. A wide variety of equipment is used in circuits to allow the children to explore the basic movement fundamentals of running, jumping, landing, hanging, swinging, balancing, turning, rolling and supporting their weight on various body parts.

The curriculum has been devised to enable your child to progressively develop basic movement patterns, so that good body tension and spatial awareness is promoted and within each lesson there is scope for extension and creative activity.

Children are encouraged to participate in Grading Days, which are held on a Sunday morning towards the end of each term. Each child receives a participation certificate as a record of his or her participation. Children attend the kindy bears grading a number of times, until they are old enough to move to Junior Gym and begin progressing through the 'colours'.

What to wear: Leotard, swimming costume or bike pants and a t-shirt for girls, shorts (not board shorts) and a t-shirt (not too baggy) for boys. Bare feet.

Parents please note: We do not allow mobile phones in the gym. They are a distraction. Please remember to turn them off. Also, please wear soft-soled shoes or bare feet only. Hard soled and heeled shoes ruin our very expensive matting. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Junior Gym

4 to 6 years

The Junior Gym program caters for boys and girls aged 4 to 6 years, the children are grouped according to age, standard and experience.

The Junior Gym program is both an extension of the Kindy Bears program and an entry point for children aged 4 to 6 years who are new to gymnastics.

Each child begins at the first level - BRONZE - and progresses through to the third - GOLD -. Children are encouraged to participate in grading days, which are held on a Sunday morning towards the end of each term. Each child receives a participation certificate as a record of his or her participation and achievements.

The progressive steps are: BRONZE - SILVER - GOLD

Most 4 and 6 year olds will complete the Junior Gym program in one year. The younger ones will usually take longer. The complete program covers basic movement fundamentals and body preparation and provides an excellent foundation for further involvement in gymnastics as well as other sports.

What to wear: Leotard, swimming costume or bike pants and a t-shirt for girls, shorts (not board shorts) and a t-shirt (not too baggy) for boys. Bare feet.

Parents please note: While parents are encouraged to stay and watch their child, for the benefit and safety of all involved we ask that parents remain outside the gym at all times and make use of the viewing windows.

Recreational & Senior Boys

6 to 12 years

Recreational boys is the non-competitive progression for boys from the Junior Gym program and for boys from 7 years who are new to gymnastics. The Junior Boys program is a stepping-stone to either the Development or the Level 1 Boys group. The classes provide a good basis for strength and co-ordination and development, which will benefit boys in any sport they play.

Boys are encouraged to attend our quarterly Grading Days, which are held on a Sunday morning towards the end of each term. Each boy receives a certificate as a record of his participation and achievement.

Junior Girls

7 to 8 years

Junior Girls is the non-competitive progression for girls from the Junior Gym program and for girls from 7 years who are new to gymnastics. It caters for those not ready or not wishing to make the commitment to a competitive levels squad.

The main focus of the program is on fun, fitness and gymnastics fundamentals.

Grading days are held at the end of each term and the gymnasts aim to demonstrate improvement in the key areas of strength, flexibility and shaping. It is advisable that the gymnasts remain in the program for several terms. If suited to the competitive stream, the gymnast will be recommended for a squad, otherwise the natural progression is to Intermediate Girls.
